This life I’m building feeds my heart.
This life I’m building feeds my heart.
My dad is in his 70s, and he asked me to pressure wash the concrete on the back patio for him so his back wouldn’t get out of whack.
At first, I just took my time, gliding back and forth in small strokes, cleaning with the washer, and that satisfying feeling of watching the cement give up its months of built-up dirt.
Soon, I was totally in the groove with a rhythmic flow, signing along to Jimmy Buffett and Steve Miller - right, left, right, left.
And it popped into my mind, “I’d much rather be doing this than sitting at my computer. It’s a gorgeous day, 80 degrees and partly sunny, and dad needs a break.”
I looked over at my parents sitting on their wooden swing, barefoot, facing the pond, and watched my mother smack Dad’s arm as he must’ve said something wise-a$$ to make her laugh.
Then turned my attention back down to my work - gliding right, left, right, left.
The life I am building looks unrecognizable compared to what I used to want. I used to write marketing hooks about $10K paydays and how a woman could have a quantum leap - because that was the world I lived in. There’s nothing wrong with wanting those things - but I don’t resonate with that version of myself anymore.
It is as if my heart woke up and I can’t be arsed with anything that contains a “hook”. I’ve unfollowed women I like who talk about emotional hooks all day - and had a chuckle that “I’m done with these hookers.”
Those things just don’t feel important to me anymore.
You know what feels important?
Getting outside
Helping my dad
Watching my parents flirt with each other
Hearing my dad say, “Before we get started, your mother just took banana bread out of the oven. Go gitcha a slice and remember the butter.”
Some part of me feels so liberated - so reborn.
My life runs on analog now - the cyclical, earth, nature, gliding left and right, simple pleasures of hot, fresh banana bread with melty, salted butter.
I still run my business, see my clients, and their results are getting deeper, richer, and more laced with the truth of what they REALLY want when they aren’t focused on “keeping up”.
There are new levels of power coming through me - I can feel them rumbling in my body - as I watch the simplicity of the life my parents built, their polarity, their playfulness, the way my father cares for her and provides for her, the way she makes his favorite foods and takes care of the home.
It’s so simple. It’s so sweet.
They follow zero polarity rules.
They only follow God, their hearts, and their devotion to their union and family.
These are my roots. This is my heritage, their legacy.
This feeds my heart.
If this calls to you, come closer…I have room for a couple more mentoring clients. Let’s talk.

Your story warmed my heart, bringing a remembrance of similar projects, afternoons, and interactions that led me away from the productivity that our culture exalts, toward the connectivity and openness that exalts my heart.
